In “The Great Piggy Bank Robbery,” which is a satire on
film noir detective movies, Daffy Duck becomes Duck
Twacy, who investigates the theft of the world’s piggy
banks. At one point, because of the parody of the
villains, legal contention flared up between Warner Bros.
and Chester Gould, the creator of Dick Tracy. But once
he saw the cartoon, Gould was so impressed, he decided
to drop his issues. Because of its offbeat style and story
movement - an obvious influence in “The Great Piggy Bank
Robbery,” the cartoon has been honored as not only a
cartoonist’s cartoon, but as one of the “spontaneous
miracles” to come out of Warner Bros. in the 30s and 40s.
The Library of Congress awarded “The Great Piggy Bank
Robbery” as one of the best cartoons ever made and went
to the great expense of striking a pristine print for
their permanent collection.
The fine art lithographic background recreates the look and
detail
of the original cartoon.
