Though they are from opposite sides of the tracks,
pampered cocker spaniel Lady and footloose-and-collar-free
Tramp have fallen head-over-paws for each other. Now in
the cozy parlor of their human owners, Jim Dear and Darling,
this loving canine couple poses for a family portrait—with
Tramp proudly wearing his newly-acquired collar.
This beautiful edition
portrays scene 28 from Sequence 12.1 of Lady and the
Tramp (1955). This animated feature delightfully combines
two of Walt Disney’s favorite themes: dogs and nostalgia
for turn-of-the-century Americana. Lady makes her home
in a charming residential area of a small New England
town circa 1910, and the film’s art direction showcases
the quaint gingerbread architecture of the era. Lady and
the Tramp was the first animated feature produced in the
CinemaScope® widescreen process. “CinemaScope gave the
artists the opportunity—indeed, the necessity—to experiment
with action, groupings, and setting,” said Walt Disney.
“We were able to do more in our backgrounds and settings
because we had a larger canvas on which to work.”
Consequently, more time and attention were devoted to the
background paintings than ever before. The printed
background with this hand-painted cel lovingly recreates
the Victorian-style wallpaper pattern seen in Jim Dear and
Darling’s parlor in the film’s backgrounds. The oval cut
portrait is evocative of Walt Disney’s 15th animated
feature’s enchanting turn-of-the-century setting and
perfectly captures the actual film moment of Lady and
Tramp’s happy-ending family portrait.
Inspired by the art created for the Walt Disney Studios
1955 film, this edition was

7 ink colors and 16 paint colors, and both the cel and the
background were created by carefully consulting the
original animation drawings and animation background
paintings that were used in the production of this
animated feature. The result is an endearing portrait of
these lovable pooch sweethearts.
